West Pacific

Southeast Negros Oriental - Visayas - Philippines

Safe Typhoon anchorage - Maximum recommended draft 15 feet.
Max. water depth at anchorage about 6 fathoms (36 ft).

At Tongo Sail Inn Beach Resort we listen on VHF channel 68 during daylight hours. We can see you from the Bar - Restaurant during your approach to the typhoon safe anchorage and can give "shore advice" in case you drift to the side of the channel.

A suitable entrance point would be:

09° 03' 05.5" N, 123° 07' E

You can safely approach the entrance point within a sector with bearings 345° - 050° to the entrance point. The bearings are given from seaward. From there you proceed on a (true) course of 343° to:

09° 03' 15.7" N, 122° 06' 57" E

which is in the middle of the channel. From there you keep due North until the northern land head on your starboard is abeam. Continue around the bend as seen in the picture below and up to the safe anchorage (Tambobo Bay). See also Sailing Directions.

Tongo Sail Inn is one of the very few beach resorts in Philippines with a typhoon safe anchorage. The anchorage accommodates over 40 ocean going motor yachts and sailing boats. It was used already by the Spaniards when they arrived to Philippines with their galleons in the 16th century. It's probable they were using Polynesian pilots as the word "Tongo" means "mangrove" in Polynesian.

Visayas is about half way between Africa and the South Pacific. It's also about half way between Australia and Hong Kong. Tambobo Bay anchorage is a natural boating centre in Visayas.

This Philippine Beach Resort offers an affordable beach vacation together with safe and convenient "parking" for your yacht or cruiser at our safe anchorage. We can arrange a watchman onboard your boat at the typhoon safe anchorage if you want to go ashore yourself for some longer time periods.

While at the anchorage, please bring your "garbage" to Tongo Sail Inn, we will dispose of it. From the anchorage it is only about 5 minutes by your dinghy to the Beach Resort.

There are no chicken or cocks inside Tongo Sail Inn area. In the morning you can wake up to the early bird song. All of the beach resort area is turning into a private bird sanctuary.

Imagine the warm and soft sand between your toes, a cool breeze coming in off the sea, and the warmth of the tropical sun on your skin. Best of all, imagine not needing your watch or cell phone at all.

As is common at Philippine Beach Resorts, Tongo Sail Inn area is covered with coconut trees giving shadow and coolness during daytime. For your safety the coconuts are harvested regularly. Tongo Sail Inn has Australian - British - Filipino management, you can expect a humorous glint in our eyes.
